4 Doctoral Scholarships in Economics at Barcelona Institute of Economics

Under the Research Program “Fiscal Federalism” (Heads: Prof. Albert Solé-Ollé & Prof. Núria Bosch-Roca) at the IEB, we are seeking applications for Four Doctoral Scholarships

The academic year starts on September 1, 2009. The scholarship is for a period of two years (Master`s period), plus two additional years (PhD period) for students who are accepted on the PhD program. The amount of each stipend is 1,000 euro/month, and tuition fees will be waived.

The successful candidates will be admitted to the Master`s program in Economics at the University of Barcelona. The Master`s program is recognized by the Ministry of Education and the PhD program has received an award of excellence by the Ministry of Science.

The Master`s program comprises core subjects during the first year (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics and Econometrics) and three optional subjects from a list. During the second year there are also optional subjects, apart from the Master`s thesis. We expect the candidate to be engaged in the field of “Public Economics” (optional subjects: Public Finance I: Public spending, Public Finance II: Taxation, Fiscal Federalism, Political Economics, and Health Economics). During the PhD period, the candidate will have two supervisors: one from the IEB, and another from the IEB research network. During the third and fourth years, candidates will be encouraged to undertake short periods as visiting researchers at institutions connected with the IEB.

Italy – 2009 / 2010 University of Venice PhD Fellowships in Economics and Business Management

The School offers two doctoral programs: Economics (DEC) and Business Management (DEA). They cooperate and share most activities.

There are 5 three-year fellowships available for DEC and another 5 for DEA.

Classes start on September 1st, 2009. Most first-year classes are common across the two programs.

The general application procedure is similar for the two programs, with minor differences. Please make sure to carefully read the relevant information for the program you wish to apply for: DEA or DEC.

Separate applications are required for either program. Simultaneous applications to more than one program are possible.

An application must abide by the statute of their respective “Bando” (Official Advert) as published on the Gazzetta Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana. Borobudur, One of the Greatest Temple in the World

Borobudur is a Buddhist temple, located in the village of Borobudur Magelang regency, Central Java, was built by King Samaratungga, one of the kings of Old Mataram Kingdom, the descendant of Syailendra dynasty. The name Borobudur is a combination of words and Bara Budur. Coals from Sanskrit means temple or monastery complex. While Budur derived from the word meaning Beduhur above, so Borobudur means monastery on the hill. Meanwhile, according to other sources means that a terraced mountain-terrace (budhara), while other sources say that Borobudur means monastery is located in a high place.

Borobudur temple is the second largest after the Temple Ankor Wat in Cambodia. Area of Borobudur 15,129 m2 composed of 55,000 m3 of stone, of 2 million discounted rocklike. Borobudur-shaped building consists of 10 levels, measuring 123 x 123 meters. This Buddhist temple has 1460 relief and 504 Buddhist stupa in the complex. Six levels below the square-shaped and three levels on top of one circular and the highest level in the form of a Buddhist stupa facing to the west. Each level represents the stages of human life.
